Why Sponsor a Rescued Farmed Animal?
Farm animals are some of the most widely accepted animals deemed ok to treat cruelly. People's perceptions of farm animals is that they are dumb and deserve what they get because that is what they are made for, food. This way of thinking is accepted because most people only experience farm animals as cut up body parts in a grocery store. Many people have never met a goat or a turkey in real life. This is why sanctuaries rescue farm animals to help create a better understanding that farm animals are no different from dogs and cats.
The majority of people are very understanding, accepting and affectionate towards domestic animals such as dogs and cats because they see them as fun and loving little creatures. We hope that through your visits with Cloven Heart and/or via social media that you have met a farm animal that you really connect with and truly see for the first time as not only adorable, but as real as any dog or cat. Farmed animals are very misunderstood and only seen as food, but the mistreatment of farmed animals in the food industry is horrific and if more people knew then maybe they would realize how unfair and cruel this system of using animals for food is wrong.
Each of these kiddos comes from different backgrounds. The majority of them have been used, neglected, and mistreated in their lifetime before coming to live at Cloven Heart. The forgotten and mistreated among us deserve a better life, a better chance at happiness. This is what coming to live at a sanctuary is about, to help, heal, and teach these animals that life can be happy and safe.

Goat Kiddos
SymphonySymphony is a strong, beautiful and resilient senior female Nubian goat. She came to Cloven Heart in 2017 rescued from a meat auction. She was a skeleton, bald patches, had given up on life. No one even wanted to buy her. We promised Symphony that we would make her healthy, happy, and safe if she'd let us. I believe she looked at me with eyes that said she believed me. She has since grown to be confident and joyous in all she does. She is truly loving her life at Cloven Heart.

GinnyGinny was the weaker twin (her sister Hermione). She was purchased by an animal flipper (these are people who buy animals and sell them for double to make money and they don't care who takes the animal or what will become of them. They don't even help the sick animals). This was 2017. Ginny was a runt, belly full of worms, so sick all she could do was stand and stare. She was not a happy baby goat. Once we were able to get her parasites cleared, she got goat polio and could not walk and went partially blind. She has since survived and is now a happy girl living forever safe with her twin sister.
HermioneHermione was the always the larger and stronger twin. She was just as sick as her sister. She just stood and stared into space. She was not a happy goat, the kind you see frolicking about. It was a difficult process to heal her. It didn't take long after she got better to see her run and jump brought so much joy to our hearts. She and her twin sister, Ginny, will never know the life most goats face. Her body will never be used to have her milk and her babies taken away from her only to end up in slaughter in a few years. She and her sister, will always be together. They don't like being apart from each other and spend many happy days grazing and playing together at Cloven Heart.

Mama DelaneyMama is our golden girl. She came to live here in 2018 with her son Gambino and another baby goat, Bruno. They were all sent to slaughter and tried to get sold off separately. We saw this family and wanted to save them from this terrible day. For the first time in her life, Mama got to actually be a mama. She was already an older girl, full of sweetness and gentle. We love her dearly because she has always been a good mama to her son and she's a good soul who deserves nothing but happiness. Eating brings her the most happiness.
GambinoGambino is the last child of Mama Delaney. He was so cute and tiny standing and playing in that auction ring with Bruno, running circles around his mama. He didn't know that this was about to the worst day of his life. He was going to be taken away from his mom and possibly slaughtered. Luckily, Cloven Heart was able to secure his safety, along with his mom. His life, growing up at Cloven Heart, has been all sunshine and happiness. He is a boy who has grown up knowing zero hardships. He is luckier than many goats. He got to grow up with his mom, eating lots of food, knowing only love.
BrunoBruno is a sweet male Boer goat. He was actually with Mama Delaney and Gambino being sold for slaughter but Mama is not his biological mother. It took us a while to figure this out as Mama wouldn't let him nurse. Although Bruno is a sweet goat, he has always been a sad goat from the minute he came to Cloven Heart. He got taken away from his mom, sent to a strange place, then came to live at a strange place, He felt all the loneliness a little baby boy could feel and it took a lot of convincing and time to help him fee like he could be happy here. Luckily, he and Gambino have always been the best of friends.

seraphinaSeraphina is the cutest little sprite. She is the tiniest of goats. She was a stray goat running through a neighborhood in 2019 being chased by children who were trying to jump on her back and ride her. She got cornered in a back yard by the kids where a dog on the other side of the fence grabbed her leg and tried to pull her through. Luckily, our farrier was in the neighborhood and saw all this transpire and saved her. She just a happy, loving little girl.
VanellopeVanellope came from a life of love. Her human then fell on some hard times and wanted to find a safe home for her. Vanellope ended up living alone in a backyard for almost a month until she found Cloven Heart in 2019. Vanellope is a sweet goat who loves to head butt. She wasn't used to being with other goats but learned to love and trust her goat family. She found a best friend in Seraphina and they are often together just being happy and playing together.

Sheep kiddos
NoahNoah, a male Dorper sheep, is most likely the sweetest boy you would ever meet. He was rescued from a backyard butcher in 2017 with Ava. They were living in extreme filth with other young sheep. Noah wouldn't be alive today without Cloven Heart. Noah is completely bonded with Ava. He dotes on her ever movement and follows her everywhere. When he can't be with Ava, he gets very upset and cries for her. Nothing makes Noah happier than Ava and he will jump straight up into the air and run as fast as he can making his tail spin in circles.
AvaAva is a barbado sheep rescued from a backyard butcher with Noah in 2017. She loves and adores Noah, even though he is not her blood brother, they are bonded for life. She also gets upset when she can't be with Noah. Ava is not as nice a girl as she looks. She is the prettiest sheep ever, but she's got a bit of an attitude. She thinks she's the boss of everyone and as she's gotten older, head butting has become an issue. We love and treat Ava with caution. Her best friends are Hope and Charlie.

Cow kiddos
CharlieCloven Heart saved Charlie, along with Sydney (RIP) and his daughter Hope in 2018. Charlie lived about as free a life as a bull could have. He was free to roam a large property with a herd of cows, making babies, and watching his babies get taken to auction. There came a time when Charlie's whole family got sent to auction, but Charlie fought for his life and refused to go. We knew Charlie because when we first rescued Ava and Noah, he would bring his family to look at them and graze together even if they were on the other side of the fences. When we found out about Charlie's whole family, we became an official farm sanctuary so we could save him. Charlie is the most gentle of giants as he is 2100 lbs. He is kind to all his farm animal family and especially loves Ava and Noah, his sheep children.
HopeHope was saved as a baby, with Charlie and Sydney (RIP). She was very skittish and skeptical of us, until she had Faith. She was a baby who luckily didn't have to spend a lifetime making babies to have them all taken away from her. She doesn't have to stay pregnant for the next ten years to get her milk taken from her. She just gets to enjoy life as a cow was meant to, walking, eating, napping, loving her baby, Faith. Many people may not see that as much of a life, but many of us humans always think of those types of activities as a vacation from life. Hope is sweet, and although I say that about all the animals that life here, it's true. She is very mellow and easy going. She loves to run and kick her back feet into the air and run with her daughter, Faith. She is the best mommy in the world.
FaithFaith was born at Cloven Heart, September 23, 2020. She is Cloven Heart's surprise baby. She is the daughter of Hope and Charlie. Faith is a true blessing of blessings because to see a such a new life grow and experience all their firsts in life is quite amazing. We have watched her grow and experience her first rain, her first snow, her first time meeting her dad, Charlie, her first time making a friend. She loves to run and play with her mom. Faith will always be safe and loved and grow up with her mom by her side.

Piggy Kiddos
TrufelleTrufelle was living at a local homestead and was given away to us for unknown reasons. She was young and feral. She had not know a gentle touch and did not want for human contact. We managed to convince her to let us give her belly rubs, which she absolutely loves. Trufelle also loves her mud wallow and getting very dirty. Trufelle loves to talk and grumbles and squeals when her breakfast is late. Eating is very much her favorite activity and she has a very good appetite.
LouieLouie was picked up as a stray from a neighborhood that reported a loose pig. He was very small and could have been someone's pet or fallen from a truck on the way to auction. No one ever claimed him and he was able to come to Cloven Heart. Louie is very adventurous. He loves to run around and gobble up grass. Rooting is fun, but of all the little pigs, he's not a fan of rolling in the mud wallow. He stays very clean for a little piggy dude. He loves snuggling with his friends.
Luna
Luna was given as a gift to a family whose neighborhood did not allow pigs. Although everyone loved Luna, they could not keep her and found Cloven Heart. Luna was very used to having people touch her, so belly rubs is one of her favorite things. She will walk over and just flop onto her side really hard for a belly rub. Luna is very good at rooting in the mud and is always covered in mud. She also loves her mud wallow and eating. Louie is her favorite pig, but all three little pigs do share a house.

AceAce is a big guy who was very loved by his FFA family. This family loved him so much, that when they found out they would have to surrender him for slaughter at the end of the program, they refused and found Cloven Heart. His family also came and built him a very nice house that he could share with other pig friends. Ace is a very confident pig. He loves his mud wallow and just takes naps in it all day long. Ace arrived to Cloven Heart in 2019 clean and has been muddy every since. Ace is also a very big fan of the water hose. He loves drinking from the water hose, but doesn't like getting sprayed on his body with the hose. He also loves eating hay and running around the field munching on grass. He loves his best friend, Vosloo, but not as much as Vosloo loves Ace.
VoslooVosloo traveled from far away just to live at Cloven Heart. His FFA student didn't want him to go to slaughter and found Cloven Heart. Vosloo had a very different experience than Ace as students are often trained to use a whip to get the animals to move or do things you want them to do. Vosloo arrived in 2019 with large fresh welts on his back. Vosloo is very much a sweet boy. He fell in love with Ace immediately and they would nap together but on different sides of the fence while they were getting to know each other. Vosloo is a fan of belly rubs and snout rubs. He loves the wallow and getting sprayed on his body with the water hose. He likes drinking from the hose too. His favorite past time is to annoy his brother Ace, especially at dinner time when he will put his front feet on Ace's back. Vosoloo is a very cute boy.

Horses
Stevie Mama HOrseStevie is the mother of Jovi, Corvette, and Good Charlotte. She came to live here with her family in 2018. They had originally lived nearby but moved to the Dallas area and then came back to live at Cloven Heart after needing a new home. We are so thankful that we could keep the family together. Stevie is a tiny pony sized horse. She is very independent and enjoys her personal space and free time away from her kids. Her kids really respect her and Jovi is and always be her baby. Stevie is a beautiful redhead with a spicy personality.
Good Charlotte
Good Charlotte is the older sibling to Jovi and Corvette. She is a very mischievous girl. She loves to pick on her brothers. She loves to run and play occasionally, but mostly her best friend is Corvette. She loves to just hang out in the field and graze. She loves to eat. She loves being sprayed with the water hose in the summer. It's not very often that a family of horses are able to live together for a lifetime. Good Charlotte will always have her mom and brothers.
Sgt. PepperSgt. Pepper has a strong presence and smells like love. Sgt. Pepper hasn't always been a member of the horse family with Stevie, Jovi, Good Charlotte, and Corvette. He had just lived with them a few years before they were all moved to Dallas. In his past life, he was an only horse in a small field, having been rescued with his brother from a bad situation. His brother was given away and never to be seen again. Sgt Pepper was very lonely so when he found his new family, he became very bonded with them. He is definitely the father figure. Sometimes, you will see him with one of the kids, alone together grazing. He also loves running, getting sprayed by the water hose, and getting brushed.
Oberon
Oberon came to live at Clove Heart in early 2019. He was in the worst shape we have ever seen a horse. He was bony and definitely malnourished, his mane and tail matted in giant burrs. He was confiscated by a Sheriffs dept in another part of Texas. He used to live with a lot of horses and mini donkeys. They were never fed and never touched. It took a while for him to get healthy and gain weight. Two years later, with a lot of patience and attempts at kind touch, Oberon loves getting his chin and forehead scratched. He is very into getting his nose kissed. He loves to run and play chase with is good friend Titania and loves apples.
Titania
Titania came to live at Cloven Heart in early 2019 having been confiscated due to neglect from a Sheriffs dept in Texas. She came to us very sick and thin. She is also very feral/wild. Over time she has become a lot more calm and is willing to approach to get a cookie. She watches Oberon getting a lot of affection and we can tell she secretly wishes she could get all the love too. Titania has a very spicy personality. She has a little bit of a diva attitude. She loves running and wrestling with Oberon and grazing. She is super smart and knows how to avoid getting her hooves trimmed. Titania is called a hinny. She is part mini horse and part mini donkey.
Willow
Willow came to live at Cloven Heart when she was around six months new to this world in 2017. She was a baby taken from her mom way too early. Some people just give animals away with no care as to what will happen to them. She was in the hands of an animal flipper who was just trying to make money by selling her. A donkey in the wrong hands, can have a very hard life. She was very quiet and still and shy. As she started to grow and gain confidence, her personality showed her to be a gentle and sweet soul who just wants everyone to love her. One of the rules at Cloven Heart is that when you go to let the barn kids out, you must give Willow all the hugs she requires first. Willow loves hugging. She has many best friends, but her two favorite are Symphony the goat and Ava the sheep. Willow also loves making silly faces.

Turkeys
Chad
Chad is a girl turkey that came to live at Cloven Heart in 2019 after falling from a truck that was taking her to be slaughtered. She has had her beak tip cut off and her toe tips cut off which is a common practice in the raising of turkeys for food. Chad has difficulty walking due to her toes and weight. We have to be very careful to not over feed her. She loves to sun bathe. She loves to just lay around and enjoy the sunshine or a cool shade. Her favorite spot is in her barn stall with the fan on her.
Bob Bob is a girl turkey who fell off a slaughter bound truck with Chad. They were both on their way to be slaughtered but were picked up by animal control instead and came to live at Cloven Heart. Bob had the tip of her beak and toes cut off which is part of the practice observed in agriculture. Bob is a very active turkey and loves to walk around and check out everything that's in her yard. Eating is her favorite past time.
SheaShea came to live at Cloven Heart in 2019. She was a turkey baby reject from a local feed store. Shea was a very cute baby and she grew into a very sweet but also bossy adult. She loves walking around with her best friend, Coulee. They grew up together as a babies. She lives a free life without the risk of getting sent to slaughter for a holiday meal. She just gets to enjoy the sunshine and her friends every day.
CouleeCoulee is quite possible the most beautiful turkey boy in the world. He was a baby turkey reject from a local feed store and had no home until coming to Cloven Heart in 2019. Watching him grow up was fascinating. Coulee is very food motivated and will come running full force if he thinks you might have a treat in hand. He's so in love with food that we had to switch the feed bowls to rubber because he would slam his beak down so hard he once cracked it. Coulee loves to flirt with all the ladies by fluffing out his feathers and walking around them. He also is very big on supervising every event taking place near the barn. He is very into getting kisses on his head and getting rubs under his wings.
Cats
madeleine ShineMadeleine Shine was found as a kitten curled up next to a dead opossum in a Walmart parking lot. She was so feral that everyone at the cat rescue wouldn't come near her. She came to live at Cloven Heart in the barn. I wasn't long before she realized that she was the queen of the barn and enjoys watching over everyone. Sometimes, on a nice day you can catch her running in the back field trying to catch butterflies. She's a happy girl, but still very feral. She will hiss at you if you try to touch her, but she will on occasion rub against your leg.

Moon Pie
Moon Pie is a feral kitty that was being held in a pet store in a bird cage in Honolulu. We liberated her and offered her a home with good food and safety. She also moved to Texas to be part of the Cloven Heart brood. It took her a while to learn how to become friends with the other cats, but she has since become very fond of sleeping on top of a human. Her favorite thing to do is to find birds from the window and chatter at them. Moon loves to play rough with hands and appreciates a good back rub.
